Social anxiety disorder
Everyone in their life faces a moment when they feel nervous and uncomfortable however with some people this happens very often. It is possible that you clam up while meeting someone or your palms get sweaty before making a presentation. This happens to almost everyone however, if this increases to an extent where you cannot stand in a room full of people and cannot talk in front of a group of strangers. Social anxiety disorder is also known as the social phobia which is one of the most common disorder nowadays and the basic reason due to which it is still prevalent is the fact that it makes a person so uncomfortable that they do not ask for help and remain in their own cocoon. There is no specific time when it happens but following are some of the most common situations:
- Talking to strangers can make one uncomfortable
- Speaking in public as people worry about the kind of reaction they might receive
- Making eye contact
- Entering rooms
- Dating also falls in this
- Using public washroom or restrooms
- Going to different parties
- Starting conversations with strangers
- Going to school or work
There are different reasons for feeling like this but in most of the cases it is due to an overwhelming fear of:
- Judged by people in social situations
- Getting humiliated easily
- Offending someone accidentally
Following are some of the symptoms that you might experience while you go through such a feeling:
- Rapid heart beat
- Muscle tension
- Stomach trouble
- Inability to catch breath
- Out of body sensation
It is possible that you may start to receive such symptoms days before an event have actually started. There is no single thing which causes social anxiety disorder. It may have something to do with the genetic makeup of the body. If you have a family member who had social anxiety disorder than you might get this too. This disorder usually comes in the age of around 13 and it grows on you. It is very important to make sure that you talk to people and if you are suffering from this disorder try to open up to a close friend or any person who you feel comfortable with. The key to get rid of this disorder is to talk to people and make sure that you do not back away from situations, make friends and go to gatherings in order to get rid of social anxiety.
